Innovation That Makes Buildings Smarter
With Hong Kong as its innovation base and global tech support hub,
Neuron Group is at the forefront of the smart city revolution
“With specialised talent and a modern built environment, Hong Kong has unique advantages for developing a PropTech ecosystem that can foster the digitalisation of cities worldwide.”
Neuron Digital Group develops, deploys and supports best available technologies for the built environment. Originally incubated by Arup, it is building a full stack open digital platform for next-generation smart building that unlocks the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data for smart and sustainable buildings.
Making Hong Kong its headquarters and R&D base since it launched in April 2022, Neuron Group embraces data technology to enable next-generation smart digital buildings. Neuron solutions are already in use in prominent buildings in Hong Kong and around Asia, improving energy management and operational efficiency while reducing maintenance costs and enhancing tenant satisfaction.
“With specialised talent and a modern built environment, Hong Kong has unique advantages for developing a PropTech ecosystem that can foster the digitalisation of cities worldwide,” Thomas Pang, Acting CEO of Neuron Digital Group, says.
Local talent at the core
A key reason why Neuron Group chose Hong Kong is the city’s wealth of tech and research talent and engineering and property professionals. Nurturing local talents and building a strong local team is ongoing mission of the company and part of its promise to provide expert local service to customers.
“Hong Kong has a young generation with the potential and ambition to help us achieve our vision. As the core of our diverse team of global talents, they have the ability to tap into local demand and create innovative solutions for smart buildings.”
At the same time, Hong Kong’s status as a cosmopolitan city with an international outlook is very important to Neuron Group.
“From Hong Kong, we are able to attract and retain top overseas talents to enhance our competitiveness and create a more diversified company culture that leads to innovations and breakthroughs,” Pang explains.
Supportive open ecosystem
“Hong Kong is a business-friendly city with a supportive government and a thriving innovation ecosystem at Hong Kong Science Park, where we have our main office and key facilities. The city is both our innovation hub and the tech support centre for our global customer base,” Pang continues.
Neuron Group draws on Hong Kong’s modern built environment as the ideal test bed for PropTech solutions. It is in daily communication with local customers to better understand their needs and vision, which then informs its product development roadmap.
Looking ahead, Hong Kong will remain Neuron Group’s key market, but it is also using the city as a springboard to other leading smart cities in Mainland China and the region.
“The built-environment industry is very complex, and each market has different regulations, customer expectations, and competitors. The industry is still at an early stage of digital transformation, but the need to improve building safety and energy efficiency and help building managers be more productive are major motivators for future investment in digital solutions,” Pang concludes.
